BCLC Rugby 7’s Game

1. Project Overview

In collaboration with Creative Others and Inventa, BCLC initiated an interactive chance-based game for the 2023 Rugby Sevens tournament at BC Place in Vancouver. The game featured a back-lit light box displaying four vinyl-wrapped player cards on acrylic plates, the plates themselves were interchangeable to reflect current players on the field or future re-branding. Participants guessed a player card, pressed a podium-mounted button, triggering a roulette-style animation, providing BCLC representatives a chance to engage and convey their brand message. The animation, culminating in a random selected player card winning, rewarded correct guesses with BCLC-themed prizes.

2. Design Solution

To bring this project to life, I engineered a custom lighting system for the four backlit light boxes, framed with a neon LED strip border. I also integrated the button-equipped external podium and devised the software for the light animations and gameplay mechanics.

The following behind-the-scenes photos offer an insider view of the light boxes' development, construction, and installation, along with their control electronics.
